MOTS-cCare handbookMy question notes

Before saying yes to a MOTS-c shot

What do we know about side effects?

The side effects in people are unknown. That means there is not enough information to say what reactions a person might have.

The human risks are not established

The US drug agency (FDA) found no studies of MOTS-c safety in people in its review. As of September 30, 2026, the risks in people were unknown.

Missing reports are not reassurance

FDA’s review found no reports of MOTS-c side effects in its database, as of September 30, 2026.

Pharmacies that make medicine to order generally do not report these reactions to FDA. Finding no reports does not prove the shots are safe.

The body’s defences may react

FDA’s reviewers flagged a possible immune response when injected MOTS-c clumps or contains impurities.

An immune response is the body’s reaction when it sees a substance as an invader.

As of September 30, 2026, the review warned about reactions that could happen. It did not report a patient having such a reaction to MOTS-c.

Basic animal tests were also missing

As of September 30, 2026, FDA’s review lacked animal safety tests of MOTS-c given once or repeatedly over time. It also lacked tests for harm in pregnancy, damage to genes (the body’s instructions) and cancer risk.

Missing tests do not prove these harms occur; they mean those questions remain unanswered.

Severe allergy symptoms call for urgent help

According to MedlinePlus, a severe allergic reaction is a medical emergency; this health information service is provided by the US National Library of Medicine.

For severe symptoms, including breathing trouble or a swollen tongue, call emergency services. This is MedlinePlus advice as of September 17, 2026.

Keep this in mind

As of September 30, 2026, the risks of MOTS-c in people were still unknown.

A question to take

How are the unknown risks explained, and who handles a problem after care?
